Academics

PURE Academy is recognized by the State of Tennessee as a Category I school. Our integrated Agriculture STEM curriculum blends the best of Regenerative Design, Project Based Learning and the Farm to School Movement to increase student interest in high paying STEM careers and adequately prepare them for post-secondary education.

PURE expounds the curriculum to reflect STEA²M (Science • Technology • Engineering • Agriculture • Athletics • Math)

Why AG STEM?

  • AgTech and Agribusiness are key industries for Memphis and the surrounding Delta region
  • Students have access to industry experts and work-based learning opportunities
  • Agriculture ties social justice issues like food insecurity and climate change to STEM fields
  • Minorities are underrepresented in the STEM workforce
  • US colleges and agricultural science programs need to recruit diverse populations of students in STEM fields
  • Students can receive agricultural scholarships in addition to athletic scholarships
  • The average salary for STEM occupations is $87,000 compared to $45,700 for non-STEM occupations

Hands-on Learning

In addition to our 24-hour learning environment, we also offer a wide range of external opportunities such as college tours, field trips, apprenticeships and community service learning projects.

College Tour

In most cases, our college-bound hopefuls have never set foot on a college campus. PURE provides students the opportunity to visit and experience life on a college campus. They have a personal interaction with faculty, staff, and current students as they are guided through the enrollment process and campus life. We expect this experience will stimulate their minds and give them the desire to pursue a college education.

Urban Agriculture

PURE is located in an urban environment and most of our students come from the inner-city with little exposure to the natural environment or accessible healthy food. PURE’s campus includes green areas with vegetable, flower and herb gardens as well as plans for native plants and a fruit orchard. Students plant, harvest, and care for these gardens. The gardens serve as outdoor classrooms and educational labs and they also provide the school with food production. More, importantly the gardens also serve as a social-emotional outlet space for PURE students.

College Planning

PURE works with student-athletes and their families to create a plan to reach each students individual academic and athletic needs. Students work with our staff who ensure that each individual is equipped for next level success.
